The drawing for the reserve
On the name
Three notes on a five-letter word.
-
In Latin, verba means words. That is the app’s first job: to catch them accurately, and to leave them with you.
-
In Russian, верба is the pussy willow, a small tree. Its five Cyrillic letters transliterate one for one into the same five Latin ones: v-e-r-b-a.
-
Willow is among the first things to bloom. The catkins open while the wood is still bare, which makes their arrival one of the plainest signs that the winter is over.
A name for words, and for the branch that says the winter is over. Verba is for anyone getting their words out again.
Latin verba, “words” · Russian ВЕРБА, “pussy willow”
